About

Today society faces huge challenges which are resulting in disconnection from ourselves and from Nature.  We are programmed into  a consumer driven society where we are told that material objects, exam results and how we look are more important than the riches we hold inside of ourselves and how we contribute to our communities and the World.

At Earth School we aim to redress this imbalance.

At Earth School, we aim to create an environment where students, guardians, educators, community and Nature work effectively and empathetically together to provide a sustainable, exciting, stimulating and individually effective education for our young people.

We are inspired by a wide range of pedagogies including Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Play Pedagogy, Forest School and Green School, which put children in the driver’s seat of their own learning.

Earthschool will create a unique learning environment including a daily rhythm that attempts to meet all individuals needs, a mentorship approach to student-educator relations and unique democratic management structures that move away from traditional old paradigms and power structures.

We are aiming for self-sustaining classrooms where year round food production can be achieved.

We realise that it takes a community to raise a child and we need to incorporate this in our daily approach to learning.

Currently we are investigating how AI can be incorporated and embraced to enable students to plan their own learning journey and create Sovereign Learner Records to replace traditional exams.

We see young people as curious individuals with the power and potential to develop and learn from their environment and the relationships they build with others.

We view young people  as having unlimited potential and being eager to interact with ,and contribute to, the world around them. This means learning is driven by the child who takes an active role in co-constructing their own knowledge and gives the child control over the direction of the curriculum. This encourages self-expression, communication, team work thinking and problem-solving in the child. Learning mentors help enable this process.
